A soldier was martyred on Thursday during an encounter with terrorists in the Chhatru area of Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. The counter-terror operation, codenamed Operation Trashi, is currently ongoing.
According to official sources, the soldier sustained critical injuries in the gunfight and despite best medical efforts, succumbed to his wounds. The encounter began after a joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police made contact with terrorists in the dense forested area.
Security forces have deployed additional troops and cordoned off the area. The operation continues in an effort to neutralize the remaining terrorists.
The White Knight Corps posted on X (formerly Twitter) confirming the intense gunfire and the loss of a brave soldier, stating:
“Heavy exchange of fire is ongoing. One of our #Bravehearts sustained grievous injuries and despite the best medical efforts, succumbed. The operation is still in progress.”
The encounter is part of a joint search operation involving the 11 Rashtriya Rifles, 7 Assam Rifles, and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police, targeting Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists in the Singhpora-Chhatru area of Kishtwar.
Officials reported that the operation began early in the morning based on intelligence about the presence of a group of three to four terrorists. So far, two terrorists have been killed, and the search for the remaining two continues.
