Sansad Diary: Fourth Day of Monsoon Session Disrupted by Uproar, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Adjourned Till Tomorrow

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday strongly criticized Congress members for creating a ruckus in the House, saying that the traditions of the country’s oldest party were never about shouting slogans, bringing placards, or thumping desks, but the entire nation is now witnessing the conduct of its current MPs.

The opposition has continued to pressure the central government to hold debates on several issues, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, Operation Sindoor, U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated claims about mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and the sudden resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar after the first day of the session.

Lok Sabha Proceedings
On Thursday, uproar by opposition members over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar led to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha for the entire day after one suspension.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the House that measures had been taken to prevent any irregularities in the payment of wages to contractual workers at the Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh. He provided this written response on Wednesday to a question raised by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Rajya Sabha Proceedings
In the Rajya Sabha too, Thursday’s session was disrupted for the fourth consecutive day due to opposition protests over the electoral roll revision in Bihar. After one adjournment, the House was suspended for the entire day at 2:15 PM. Because of the uproar, Question Hour could not be conducted today either.

On Thursday, the Rajya Sabha bid farewell to six members whose terms are coming to an end, one of whom has already been re-elected to the Upper House. At the start of the session, Deputy Chairman Harivansh tabled the required documents before the House and announced that the terms of six members were expiring. Among them, AIADMK’s P. Wilson has been re-elected for a second term. The other members whose tenure is ending are DMK’s M. Mohamed Abdullah and N. Shanmugam, AIADMK’s M. Chandrasekaran and P. Wilson, PMK’s Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, and MDMK’s Vaiko.

On the same day, senior lawyer and jurist Ujjwal Nikam took oath as a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha. He took the oath in Marathi in the name of God, following which members welcomed him by thumping their desks.
