TMC Leader Kalyan Banerjee Launches Sharp Attack on Mahua Moitra: Calls Her ‘Low-Level’
Veteran Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kalyan Banerjee has once again launched a scathing attack on his party colleague Mahua Moitra, calling her “low-level.” The long-standing dispute between the two leaders has now escalated into personal attacks. The controversy intensified when Banerjee made a comment about Moitra’s marriage, to which Mahua responded by calling him a “pig.”
Kalyan Banerjee’s Comments
Speaking to journalists, Kalyan Banerjee stated that discussing Mahua Moitra was a “waste of time and energy.” He said, “This woman is completely irrelevant to me, and she is very low-level. There’s no point in talking about her.” Banerjee also admitted that he was angry with Moitra and had shared some things with party leader Mamata Banerjee, which he now regretted.
The Member of Parliament from Shrirampur revealed that a text message from a junior lawyer changed his perspective on the matter. “A lawyer’s message changed my perception. She’s not worth my attention. I made a mistake by paying attention to her,” Banerjee said.
The ‘Pig’ Controversy
The dispute between the two leaders deepened when Moitra referred to Banerjee as a “pig” during a podcast. Following this, Kalyan Banerjee resigned from the position of party chief whip in the Lok Sabha, and his resignation was accepted. The party then appointed Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar as the new chief whip and Shatabdi Roy as the new deputy leader in the House.
In an interview with India Today, Mahua Moitra responded to Banerjee’s comment about her marriage, saying, “You don’t wrestle with a pig. The pig enjoys it, and you end up getting dirty.” She further commented that every party in the Indian Parliament has “misogynistic, sexually frustrated, and corrupt men.”
Banerjee’s Retaliation
After Moitra’s remarks, Kalyan Banerjee took to the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to express his discontent. He called Moitra’s comparison of a fellow Member of Parliament to a “pig” “unfortunate,” adding that it disregarded the basic norms of civil discourse.
He further wrote, “Those who believe that insults can replace substance should reflect on their politics, as it only highlights their emptiness.” Banerjee emphasized that when an elected representative uses abusive language, it does not signify strength but rather insecurity.
