Russia Deploys Nuclear-Capable Missiles in Belarus After Alleged Drone Attack on Putin’s Residence

Tensions have escalated sharply following an alleged drone attack attempt on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Moscow claims that Ukraine carried out a large-scale drone assault, and soon after, Russia took a step that has raised global alarm.

Russia has announced the deployment of its newest missile system—capable of carrying nuclear warheads—in Belarus, a country that borders Ukraine. This move effectively places Ukraine under nuclear pressure from two directions. The Russian Ministry of Defense also released a video showing the new Oreshnik missile system moving through snow-covered forests.

The footage further shows Russian soldiers at an airbase in eastern Belarus preparing fighter aircraft, covering them with green camouflage netting, and hoisting flags. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that a total of ten Oreshnik missile systems will be deployed in the country. Meanwhile, President Putin, during a meeting with his top generals, declared that these missile systems are now on active duty.

Putin also reiterated his intention to capture more Ukrainian territory, signaling that the war could intensify further. The situation deteriorated after Russia claimed that Ukraine attempted a drone strike on Putin’s residence. Although Ukraine has denied the allegation, tensions in the region have continued to rise.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had issued a clear warning that Russia would retaliate against Ukraine and that potential targets had already been identified. Ukraine has categorically rejected the accusations related to the drone attack. President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the claims as false, and Russia has so far presented no concrete evidence.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that all drones were intercepted, arguing that there was therefore no question of providing evidence. He also gave no clear response regarding the alleged drone debris.

Overall, following the reported attempt on Putin’s residence, the situation has become extremely tense. Russia’s latest move has pushed the Ukraine war toward an even more dangerous and volatile phase.
