Nitin Nabin Set to Take Charge as BJP National President, Elected Unopposed
BJP’s Executive President Nitin Nabin is all but confirmed as the party’s next national president after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations closed on Monday, leaving him as the sole candidate in the fray. With no other names proposed, his elevation to the top organisational post is set to be uncontested.
According to Dr K. Laxman, the National Returning Officer for the BJP’s organisational election process, only one nomination was found valid after the withdrawal window ended, that of Nitin Nabin. The party confirmed that a total of 37 sets of nomination papers were submitted in his support, while no alternative candidate was proposed for the post.
In an official press statement, Laxman said that following the conclusion of the nomination withdrawal process, he was formally announcing that Nitin Nabin was the only candidate nominated for the position of National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
At 45, Nabin is poised to become the youngest national president in the party’s history. He was appointed BJP’s National Executive President on December 14, 2025, and will now succeed senior leader JP Nadda as the party’s 12th national president. His candidature has received the backing of the BJP’s top leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The formal transition of leadership is scheduled for January 20, 2026, at 11:30 am, in the presence of Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Nitin Nabin is the son of late BJP leader and former MLA Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha. He currently represents the Bankipur assembly constituency in Bihar and has served twice as a minister in the state government. Known for his close association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Nabin is widely regarded within the party as a strong organisational leader with firm ideological grounding, symbolising a generational shift in the BJP’s top leadership.
Renowned for his deep grassroots connect, Nabin has won the Bankipur seat in four consecutive assembly elections in 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025, in addition to securing victory in a by-election in 2006. In the most recent Bihar Assembly elections, he defeated his nearest rival by a margin of over 51,000 votes.
During his tenure in the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar, Nabin held key portfolios including Road Construction and Urban Development. He stepped down from his ministerial responsibilities following his appointment as the BJP’s Executive President, paving the way for his full-time role in the party’s central leadership.
