PM Modi Calls for Ethical, Secure, and India-Centric Growth of Artificial Intelligence
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held an extensive interaction with leading CEOs and experts from the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, underscoring the urgent need to build an AI ecosystem that is transparent, fair, and secure. He made it clear that ethical considerations in the use of AI must not be compromised and encouraged the adoption of homegrown technologies in strategically important sectors.
The discussion took place at the Prime Minister’s Office at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, where PM Modi urged industry leaders to work collectively toward positioning India as a natural hub for global AI initiatives. Drawing parallels with India’s success in digital public infrastructure, he pointed to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a powerful example of how India has demonstrated technological leadership—an achievement he believes can be replicated in the AI domain as well.
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Prime Minister highlighted the critical importance of data security and the democratization of technology. He emphasized that India’s AI ecosystem should reflect the nation’s cultural ethos and core values, rather than simply mirroring global trends. The need for large-scale skill development, talent nurturing, and capacity building in AI was also a key focus of the conversation.
Referring to the upcoming AI Impact Summit, PM Modi encouraged individuals and companies alike to leverage the platform to explore new opportunities and accelerate their growth trajectories. The PMO noted that the Prime Minister also spoke about India’s unique combination of scale, diversity, and democratic governance—factors that have helped build global trust in the country’s digital infrastructure.
Reiterating his vision of “AI for All,” PM Modi stressed that India’s technological advancements should not only deliver measurable impact at home but also serve as a source of inspiration for the world. The high-level roundtable saw participation from CEOs of major technology and AI-driven companies, including Wipro, TCS, HCLTech, Zoho Corporation, LTI Mindtree, Jio Platforms Limited, AdaniConnex, Nxtra Data, and Netweb Technologies.
Academic expertise was represented by specialists from IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Madras, and IIT Bombay. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada were also present at the meeting, reflecting the government’s strong focus on shaping India’s AI future through close collaboration between policymakers, industry, and academia.
