Ministry Condemns Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s Criticism of PM Modi’s Foreign Visits as Irresponsible
The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday condemned Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s recent remarks criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign trips, calling them “irresponsible.” Without naming Mann, the Ministry distanced itself from the “inappropriate comments” made by a high-ranking official of the state, which allegedly disregarded India’s relations with its friendly nations.
Mann had criticized the Prime Minister’s recent visits to five countries—Brazil, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Namibia. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to media queries, stating, “We have noted certain comments made by a high-ranking state official regarding India’s relations with its friends in the Global South.”
In response to Mann’s remarks, Jaiswal said, “These comments are irresponsible and regrettable and do not befit someone in such a position.”
He emphasized, “The Government of India distances itself from such inappropriate comments that undermine the country’s relations with its friendly nations.” During a media briefing, Mann had accused Modi of focusing more on visiting countries with populations of just 10,000 rather than addressing issues within the 1.4 billion people of India.
