Iran Slams Trump’s Remarks on Khamenei, Rules Out Immediate Nuclear Talks After U.S. Strikes

On Saturday, Iran condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks about Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which he made a day after his victory speech. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned Trump that if he truly seeks an agreement with Iran’s leadership, he needs to change his tone.

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi stated:

“If President Trump genuinely wants to reach an agreement, he must abandon his insulting and unacceptable tone toward Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, and stop hurting the sentiments of his millions of loyal supporters.”

He added pointedly that:

“The Israeli regime had no choice but to run to its ‘daddy’ (the U.S.) to escape our missiles.”

Araghchi emphasized that Iranians value their independence and that the country will not tolerate “threats and humiliation.”

Trump’s comments came after Khamenei’s first speech following the ceasefire agreement, in which the Iranian leader accused the U.S. President of exaggerating recent events. Khamenei stated that Trump had a habit of overdramatizing and added:

“The Iranian people are great and powerful. They showed the world that when Israel had no option left to avoid our missiles, it immediately ran to its ‘daddy’ — the United States.”

Following the recent conflict with Israel and American airstrikes, Iran has now declared that the prospects for near-future nuclear talks with the U.S. are highly unlikely. In an interview with state television, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the American attacks on three major Iranian sites had further complicated the situation. He acknowledged that the strikes caused severe damage.

While he did not completely rule out negotiations, Araghchi confirmed that no discussions have taken place at any level, nor has any timeline been established for talks.

The U.S. had recently used bunker-buster bombs to target three key Iranian facilities, including the Fordow nuclear site. Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), confirmed that the damage from these attacks was extremely serious.
