Multiple Blasts Rock Caracas Amid Escalating US–Venezuela Tensions

Amid worsening diplomatic friction with the United States, a series of loud explosions were reported in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, early Saturday morning. Residents also reported seeing aircraft flying at unusually low altitudes over parts of the city. Videos capturing the blasts quickly spread across social media platforms.

Preliminary reports suggest that the explosions occurred in areas under government control and heavily guarded by the Venezuelan military. So far, the Venezuelan government has not issued an official statement explaining the incidents. The timing of the blasts has drawn attention, as they come during a period of heightened strain between Washington and Caracas.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly accused Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of running what he calls a “drug-fueled” regime. The US administration has imposed sanctions on ships transporting Venezuelan oil and has intensified military actions in the region, alleging that Venezuelan vessels are involved in drug trafficking. Trump has also openly called on Maduro to step down, accusing Venezuela of engaging in what he described as “terrible actions” against the United States, including claims related to illegal migration and crime.

Maduro Pushes Back, Signals Conditional Cooperation

In response to Trump’s calls for regime change, President Maduro has accused the US of targeting Venezuela primarily for its oil resources. Last month, he sharply criticized Trump, calling his behavior irrational and warning that Venezuela would not allow unwanted foreign interference.

However, in a more conciliatory note, the Venezuelan government said on Friday that it is open to discussions with the United States on combating drug trafficking in the region. Maduro stated that US officials are aware of Venezuela’s position and that if Washington is genuinely interested in reaching an agreement to address narcotics smuggling, Caracas is willing to engage in serious talks.
