Trump-Putin to Meet Face-to-Face in Alaska on August 15 to Discuss Ukraine War
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he will hold a face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15, 2025, in Alaska. The meeting is expected to focus on efforts to end the ongoing war in Ukraine, which began in 2022.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “The long-awaited meeting between myself, as President of the United States, and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the great state of Alaska. Further details will be shared later. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The Kremlin has not yet issued any official statement regarding the meeting.
This will be the first in-person meeting between a sitting U.S. president and their Russian counterpart since the start of the Ukraine war. The last such meeting took place in 2021 between then-President Joe Biden and Putin.
This development comes just a day after Trump stated that he doesn’t believe President Putin needs to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. When asked by reporters on Friday whether such a meeting would be necessary, Trump replied, “No, he doesn’t need to. No.”
So far, Russia and Ukraine have held three rounds of peace talks, but no resolution has been reached. President Putin has also ruled out the possibility of direct negotiations with Zelensky.
In a separate development, Putin held discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Modi, the two leaders had an extensive conversation, during which Putin gave a detailed assessment of the situation in Ukraine. They also reviewed progress on key aspects of the India-Russia bilateral agenda.
Prime Minister Modi wrote in a post on X, “Had a very good and detailed conversation with my friend President Putin. I thanked him for sharing updates on the latest developments regarding Ukraine. I look forward to welcoming President Putin to India later this year.”
