At least one tourist was killed and 12–13 others injured in a terrorist shooting at a resort in Pahalgam, Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. A senior official confirmed that the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police rushed to the Baisaran area after hearing gunshots. A search operation is underway. Following the incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting.
Reports confirm that Amit Shah is en route to Srinagar. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:
“I am deeply saddened by the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. My condolences are with the families of the deceased. The perpetrators of this heinous attack will not be spared, and the culprits will face the harshest punishment. I have informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the incident and held a video conference with concerned officials. I will soon be heading to Srinagar to conduct a security review meeting with all agencies.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Amit Shah over the phone regarding the incident and instructed him to take all necessary steps.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his grief, stating:
“Deeply pained by the news of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam (Jammu & Kashmir). This cowardly and despicable attack on innocent civilians is extremely condemnable. My condolences and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi also condemned the incident in a post on X, saying:
“The cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir — resulting in the deaths of tourists and injuries to many — is deeply shocking and condemnable. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and hope for a speedy recovery of the injured. The entire country stands united against terrorism. Instead of making hollow claims about normalcy in Jammu & Kashmir, the government must take responsibility and implement concrete measures to prevent such barbaric acts in the future and ensure no more innocent lives are lost.”
